Local SEO: get into the Google map pack in your city
Local SEO is the work that decides whether your business appears when someone nearby searches for your service. It covers your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your service pages and your listings across the web. I do local SEO for studios, clinics and service businesses, from €150.

Why does the map pack matter more than your website ranking?
For a local service, the map pack is usually the first thing people see and the first thing they tap. It shows three businesses with a map, stars, opening hours and a call button. For a studio in a dense district, three map-pack positions are worth more than the tenth organic result.
People searching locally decide fast. They compare stars, photos and distance, then call or book. Local SEO puts you in that shortlist and makes sure your profile wins the comparison.
What decides your position in Google Maps?
Google ranks local results by three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You can't move your address, but you can control most of the rest.
Relevance
How well your profile and website match the search. The main category, the services you list and the words on your pages decide which searches you can appear for at all.
Distance
How far you are from the person searching. A studio can rank second in the map pack next door and much lower a kilometer away. That is normal and nobody can change it.
Prominence
How well known and trusted your business looks. Reviews, their rating and freshness, links, mentions and listings across the web all count here.
What local SEO work includes
Local SEO work covers five areas. I start with the one that costs you most today, usually the Google Business Profile.
Google Business Profile
I set up or rebuild the profile: main and additional categories, services with descriptions, business description, photos, hours and posts. The wrong main category is the most common and most expensive mistake I see. See Google Business Profile optimization for the full list.
Reviews routine
Reviews are the factor you can grow every week. I set up a review request sent at the right moment, with a direct link and a ready message. Every review gets an answer. No bought reviews, ever: Google removes them and can restrict the profile.
Service and location pages
One page per service, written the way people in your city search for it. Location pages only where they earn their place, such as a district you actually serve. Each page opens with a direct answer and ends with a clear way to book.
Listings and NAP consistency
NAP means name, address and phone number. They must be identical on your website, Google Business Profile, Facebook, directories and booking platforms. I find and fix the differences, and add you to the directories that matter in your country.
Technical and on-page SEO
Local schema markup, fast pages, correct titles and internal links between service pages. These make it easy for Google to connect your website with your profile.
Which local SEO mistakes cost the most?
The most expensive local SEO mistakes are simple ones. I find at least one of these in almost every audit.
- The wrong main category. "Beauty salon" instead of "Permanent makeup studio" hides you from the searches that matter.
- Keywords stuffed into the business name. It breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
- A home address shown publicly. If customers don't visit you, hide it and set a service area instead.
- No services listed on the profile. Google can't match you to specific searches it doesn't know you cover.
- Unanswered reviews. Every reply, including to a bad review, shows customers the business is alive.
- Different details in different places. An old phone number on Facebook or a directory weakens your map ranking.
- Stock photos. People want to see your room, your work and you.
Local SEO in practice
Two Poznań businesses show the method: one specialist, and one studio with a team and a long menu.
Permanent Guru
- Every treatment got its own page: brows, lips, eyeliner, removal, lamination and reconstruction after alopecia.
- Google Business Profile categories, services, photos and posts maintained as part of the system.
- A review workflow that asks at the right moment in the treatment cycle, so reviews arrive steadily.
Massage4You
- Around forty treatments reorganized by problem, technique and occasion, so first-time visitors find what they came for.
- Local targeting on technique names, body parts and the district, instead of only the generic city phrase.
- Polish and English versions written for their own audiences, plus a running review routine and Google Business Profile.
How long does local SEO take?
Google Business Profile fixes often show within 2-4 weeks. Service pages usually need 2-3 months to rank locally. Reviews keep lifting your position for as long as they keep coming.
- Audit (week 1) - your profile, site and top three competitors in the map pack, compared side by side.
- Profile and listings (weeks 1-2) - categories, services, description, photos, NAP fixes.
- Pages and schema (weeks 2-6) - service pages, local structured data, internal links.
- Reviews and measurement (ongoing) - review requests running, calls, direction requests and bookings tracked monthly.
How much does local SEO cost?
Local SEO starts at €150 for Google Business Profile optimization. A full local SEO strategy is €300, and a new website with local SEO included starts at €500.
| Option | Price (EUR, net) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile optimization | €150 one-off | The profile exists but brings few calls |
| SEO strategy (local) | €300 one-off | You have a site that nobody finds |
| Website with local SEO | from €500 | No site, or a site that needs rebuilding |
| Monthly growth plan | €250-300 / month | Content, links and reviews every month |

Is local SEO right for your business?
Local SEO works best for businesses whose customers come from a limited area and search before they book.
A good fit
- beauty, massage, tattoo and wellness studios
- clinics, physiotherapists and therapists
- workshops, repair and home services
- one-person businesses competing with chains
Not the right tool
- online-only businesses with no local customers
- businesses that need enquiries this week; that is a job for Google Ads, covered on the services page
Local SEO questions
What is local SEO?
Local SEO is optimization for searches with local intent, such as "massage near me" or "tattoo studio Prague 1". It covers your Google Business Profile, reviews, service pages and listings, so you appear in the map pack and local results.
How is local SEO different from regular SEO?
Regular SEO competes for positions across a country or language. Local SEO competes in a small area, where the map pack, distance and reviews matter as much as the website. The technical basics are the same.
Can I rank in the map pack without a physical address?
Yes. A business that travels to customers can use a service-area profile with the address hidden. It appears for the areas you choose. A virtual office address is against Google's rules and risks suspension.
How many reviews do I need?
Enough to compete with the businesses already in your map pack. Look at the top three for your main search and note their review counts. Fresh, steady reviews matter more than one big burst.
Why does my ranking look different on my phone?
Map results depend on where the searcher is. Checking from home shows different results from checking next to your business. I use location-based rank tracking to see what customers actually see.
Can I do local SEO myself?
Partly, yes. Asking for reviews and adding photos is work you should do yourself. What is hard to see from inside is the right main category, the service structure and the NAP errors across the web. That is where a specialist pays off.
