Google Business Profile optimization. Are you on the map?

Google Business Profile optimization is the work of setting up your free Google listing so it appears when people nearby search for what you do. For a service business, it is usually the fastest route from a search to a phone call.

A profile with the wrong category or missing services simply doesn't show up. You never find out how many customers went to the business above you instead.

Why it works

Why is the map pack worth more than a first-page ranking?

When someone searches for a local service, Google shows three businesses on a map above the regular results. Being one of those three is usually worth more than the top organic spot, because the searcher can call or get directions in one tap.

People rarely search for "SEO". They search for a hairdresser, a mechanic or a massage studio near them. The profile that answers that search clearly, with recent reviews, gets the call. It works best on a fast website for service businesses.

What I do with your Google Business Profile

I rebuild the parts of the profile that decide which searches you appear for, then set up a routine that keeps reviews coming. Everything is done inside your own profile, and you stay the owner.

  • Primary and secondary categories. The primary category decides which searches you can appear for at all. It is the most common and most expensive mistake I see.
  • Service area or address. If customers don't come to you, the address stays hidden. I set the districts and cities you actually serve. Service-area setup is part of my local SEO work.
  • Services written for real searches. Each service gets its own entry, named the way people search for it, not the way your price list names it.
  • Business description. 750 characters that say what you do and for whom, without filler about passion and quality.
  • Photos. Logo, cover photo and real photos of your work and your space. No stock images.
  • A review process. A ready-made request message, a direct review link and the right moment in your customer journey to send it. All within Google's rules, with no paid reviews.
  • Consistent business details. Your name, address and phone match your website and other directories. Mismatched details weaken your position on the map.

What I don't promise: a specific position in the map pack. Rankings also depend on how far the searcher is from you, and nobody controls that. I promise a profile without errors, visible for the right searches, and a process that adds reviews every month.

In practice

How the profile works as part of a system

A profile works best when it is connected to a website and a review routine. For Permanent Guru, a permanent makeup studio in Poznań, all three were built as one loop.

  • Categories, services, photos and posts are maintained as part of the system, not as an afterthought.
  • Review requests go out at the right moment in the treatment cycle, so reviews arrive steadily instead of in bursts.
  • Every treatment has its own page on the website, so the profile links to a page that answers the exact question.
"Working with Alena helped me explain what Permanent Guru actually does, and what makes each treatment different. She took the time to understand how I work, and turned that into content that sounds like me rather than like an advert. What I value most is her eye for detail, and how much care she put into getting my voice right."

Step by step

How Google Business Profile optimization works

The work takes about two weeks, then one check after 30 days. You only need to give me manager access.

  1. Profile audit (days 1-2). I check categories, services, description, photos, reviews and whether your details match your website. I also look at the three businesses in the map pack for your searches.
  2. Categories and services (days 3-5). I set the primary and secondary categories and describe each service with the words customers actually use.
  3. Description, photos and details (week 2). New description, hours, service area, website link and photos.
  4. Review process (week 2). You get a ready-made request message and a direct link that opens the review form. We agree on when you send it.
  5. Check after 30 days. I look at the profile's performance data (views, calls, direction requests) and fix what isn't working.

I only need manager access to your profile. You never have to share your Google account password.

Troubleshooting

Why doesn't my business show up on Google Maps?

Most invisible profiles have one of five problems. They are listed here from the simplest to fix to the slowest.

  • The profile isn't verified. An unverified profile isn't shown publicly.
  • The profile is suspended. Usually because of keywords stuffed into the business name, a virtual office address or duplicate profiles.
  • You're searching from the wrong place. Map results depend on the searcher's location. From home, a few kilometers away, you see different businesses than a customer standing next door.
  • The category doesn't match the search. The profile is visible, just for different searches than the ones you're checking.
  • Competitors have more reviews. When two profiles are equally complete, the one with more recent reviews usually wins.

Honestly

Reviews matter more than anything else here

In a competitive city, the businesses in the top three of the map pack often have dozens or hundreds of reviews. A new profile with five reviews won't reach that spot in a month, however well it is set up.

That's why the review process is part of this service, not an extra. Without it, the rest of the work has far less effect.

FAQ

Google Business Profile questions

How much does Google Business Profile optimization cost?

€150 as a one-off service if you already have a website. If you order a 10-page website from me, the profile setup is included in the package at no extra cost.

Is a Google Business Profile free?

Yes. The profile itself is completely free, and nobody can charge you for being shown on Google Maps. You pay for the work: categories, services, description, photos and the review process. A call saying your profile will expire unless you pay is a scam.

How long until the profile brings in customers?

A correctly set up, verified profile usually starts appearing in local results within two to four weeks. Your position in the map pack depends mostly on reviews and on distance, so clear results usually come in the second or third month.

Can I do it myself?

Yes, and some of it is worth doing yourself, especially collecting reviews and adding photos. You pay for what is hard to see from outside. That means the right primary category, the service area, well-named services and a review routine that keeps working.

I don't have an office and work at the customer's place. Does a profile still make sense?

Yes. You set it up as a service-area business with no public address. It then appears in local results for the districts and cities you choose, and your home address stays private.

Do you need my Google password?

No. You add me as a manager in the profile settings, and you can remove that access at any time. The profile always stays yours.
